Our first child (Jack) will be here in November and I have had so much fun planning and preparing for his arrival. I’ve decided to go with a subtle safari theme for his nursery but I still wanted this space to have a calm, soothing feel. So, I went with a neutral palette; light beige walls and lots of white and grey mixed in.
Our baby showers are getting kicked off this weekend and with all of his furniture in place, we are ready to begin stocking his room. Without giving too much away (after all, I have to save some things for the reveal), here is a look into the room currently:
As I mentioned before, this room was created on a budget. The animal prints above the crib were a DIY project that my husband and I put together. I had seen nearly identical images on Etsy with a hefty price tag, but luckily we were able to find these images on ShutterStock and had them printed at WalMart for $9 total. We found the white frames on sale at Target (back to schools sales are for everyone!) that completely pulled the look together.
The crib and glider are also budget-friendly items. We knew we wanted a convertible crib that he would be able to grow into and this Delta Childrens 4-in-1 crib was listed on Amazon for only $160. This is a steal compared to many of the other cribs we had looked at.
As for the glider, when I was about 18 years old I saw a glider in Pottery Barn Kids that was the most beautiful piece of furniture I had ever seen. I told myself, “when I have kids one day, this will be in their nursery.” It’s funny how little 18-year-olds know about money and budgeting! So the mission was to find one that matched as closely as possible to that Pottery Barn chair without breaking the bank. Hello, Babies R Us! I found this linen chair on their website for around $500 and waited for it to go on sale. The moment it did, my credit card came flying out.
Lastly, the dresser turned changing table. I actually did a lot of research on this before making the final decision because buying a changing table and a dresser just didn’t seem practical. I wanted something that we could continue to use even after he is out of diapers and I also wanted something with plenty of storage. That’s when I came across this HEMNES dresser from Ikea. I was surprised to see how many other moms had used this exact same piece and I was able to find photos and videos on how they had organized it. They also sell matching night stands which I used as a side table for the glider.
We still have a few DIY projects in the works and of course some essentials (he may not be too comfortable sleeping on those springs!) but we are very happy with the progress so far and we’re so excited for what’s yet to come. Be sure to stay tuned for the final reveal!
